They are not rivals. They are different tools — and choosing well starts with knowing what each one is actually for.
The short answer: CoolSculpting is built to reduce small, pinchable pockets of stubborn fat by freezing fat cells. LPG endermologie is built to improve skin quality, the appearance of cellulite, lymphatic drainage and overall contour through mechanical stimulation. If your concern is a specific fat bulge, cryolipolysis addresses it directly; if your concern is skin texture, dimpling, puffiness or progressive whole-body refinement, endermologie is the more direct fit — and plenty of people ultimately benefit from both.
We hear this question almost weekly at RK Centre in Yorkville, and the internet does not help: most comparisons are written to sell one against the other. So here is the honest version — what each technology does, what it feels like, and how to decide which belongs in your plan.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is the best-known brand of cryolipolysis — a technique that uses controlled cooling to freeze fat cells in a targeted area. Fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than the skin and tissue around them; once crystallized, a portion of them break down and are gradually cleared by the body over the following weeks and months.
It is FDA-cleared for fat reduction in specific areas, and it is typically delivered in one to a few sessions per area, each treating a defined "pocket" — think the lower abdomen, flanks, or under the chin. Because the fat cells are eliminated rather than shrunk, the reduction in the treated pocket is considered long-lasting, although the fat cells that remain can still enlarge if weight changes.
Two honest caveats belong in any fair description. First, the after-effects: while there is no formal downtime, treated areas commonly feel numb, tender, tingly or bruised for days — occasionally weeks. Second, a rare but well-documented risk called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, in which the treated area enlarges rather than shrinks and may require corrective treatment. It is uncommon, and any reputable provider will walk you through it — but you deserve to know it exists before you decide.
What is LPG endermologie?
LPG endermologie takes a completely different route. Instead of destroying fat cells, it uses patented motorized rollers and rhythmic suction to mechanically stimulate the skin and the tissue beneath it — a process researchers call mechanotransduction: the cells' natural response to precise mechanical signals. It is entirely non-invasive, with no needles, no cold, no heat and no downtime.
That stimulation works on three fronts at once: the quality and firmness of the skin, the appearance of cellulite, and lymphatic drainage — the "de-puffing" circulation work that manual massage does, delivered mechanically and measurably. In published research, mechanical stimulation of this kind has been shown to move lymph up to three times faster than manual massage. Across 80+ published studies, the pattern is consistent: results are progressive, building session by session over a personalized protocol rather than arriving in one visit.
A few figures from that literature, for context: 93% of women showed smoother, firmer skin after 12 sessions; a 2024 clinical evaluation (BeScored) measured an average waist reduction of 5.8 cm over a full protocol; and clients with heavy, tired legs reported a 50% reduction in that sensation from the very first session. The technology is FDA-cleared (510(k) K990445) and licensed by Health Canada (Licence 112917). As with any aesthetic treatment — cryolipolysis included — individual results vary.
Side by side
| CoolSculpting | LPG Endermologie | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Cryolipolysis — controlled cooling freezes fat cells | Mechanotransduction — mechanical stimulation of skin and tissue |
| Best suited for | Localized, pinchable pockets of fat | Cellulite appearance, skin firmness, drainage, overall contour |
| Sessions | Usually one to a few per area, spaced weeks apart | A personalized protocol series, then light maintenance |
| Downtime | None formally; numbness, tenderness or bruising can linger | None — you return to your day immediately |
| What it feels like | Intense cold and suction, then numbness | A deep, relaxing mechanical massage |
| Type of result | A one-time reduction that appears gradually over weeks to months | Progressive improvement that builds session by session |
The honest part: they are answering different questions
Most "versus" articles quietly assume the two technologies compete for the same job. They do not.
CoolSculpting answers the question: "Can I make this specific pocket of fat smaller?" It is a targeted, episodic intervention — you treat an area, wait, and see the change. What it does not do is improve the skin sitting over that pocket. Fat reduction and skin quality are separate problems; removing volume can even make lax or dimpled skin more noticeable, not less.
Endermologie answers a different question: "Can my skin be smoother, firmer and better drained — and my silhouette more refined over time?" It does not destroy fat cells, and we will never pretend it does. What it does, with a depth of published evidence unusual in this industry, is work on the connective tissue, circulation and skin where cellulite, puffiness and heaviness actually live.
The honest bottom line. If your single concern is one stubborn, pinchable bulge, cryolipolysis is the tool designed for that. If your concern is skin texture, cellulite, water retention or gradual whole-body contouring — or you simply want a non-invasive, no-downtime path — endermologie is the tool designed for that. Neither claim makes the other technology bad.
Can you combine them? Yes — and many people do
Because the two work on different layers, they pair rather naturally. After cryolipolysis, the body spends weeks clearing the treated fat cells through the lymphatic system — exactly the system endermologie mechanically stimulates. Many clients use a course of endermologie as supportive care after CoolSculpting: encouraging drainage, keeping the tissue supple and comfortable, and looking after the skin over the treated area while the reduction takes shape. If you go this route, coordinate timing with the provider who performed your cryolipolysis.
The Toronto picture
CoolSculpting is widely available across the GTA. LPG endermologie at its current standard is not: RK Centre is the only clinic in Toronto with the CELLU M6 INFINITY®, LPG's latest-generation device. It is also where the technology's Canadian story began — Rufina Kraychik was the first to bring LPG endermologie to Canada, and over 40 years she has personally performed more than 200,000 treatments. That depth of experience matters most at exactly this stage: deciding honestly whether endermologie is the right tool for your goal, or whether something else — including cryolipolysis elsewhere — would serve you better. We would rather tell you the truth than book you a package.
What to do next
If you are weighing the two, start with a conversation, not a purchase. Bring your actual goal — the mirror moment that bothers you — and we will map it honestly against what each technology can and cannot do. Apply for a private assessment with Rufina, or simply call (416) 880-1080 and ask your questions first.
